Preparing For Your Online Yoga Therapy Session
Before your session, take a few moments to ground yourself and set an intention for your practice. Reflect on what you’d like to work on, whether it’s relieving stress, improving flexibility, or addressing emotional challenges. Come with an open mind and a willingness to explore, but know that there’s no pressure to "perform" — this is your personal journey.
Ensure your space is comfortable and free of distractions. Find a quiet area with enough room to move, and make sure your device is set up in a way that allows us to see you clearly. A stable internet connection and a charged device will help the session flow smoothly.
Wear comfortable clothing that allows for freedom of movement. Yoga therapy involves gentle poses and mindful breathing, so it’s important to feel at ease in your clothes. Props like a yoga mat, cushion, blanket, bolsters, or a yoga chair can be very helpful, and I will inform you about which props to have during our initial session. Don’t worry if you don’t have them all — we can work with what you have.
Lastly, communication is key. If there’s anything on your mind — whether it’s about your body, emotions, or the process itself — feel free to share. Together, we’ll create a safe and supportive space for your healing and growth.

Is Online Yoga Therapy Effective?
Online therapy involves the same individual 1:1 sessions as traditional in-person therapy, but conducted over the internet. Instead of meeting in a yoga studio, clients can now attend their sessions from the comfort of their own home, a hospital room, or any other private location they choose. This convenience has made online therapy the preferred option for many of my clients, as it offers the same level of professionalism, confidentiality, and effectiveness as face-to-face sessions, with added flexibility.
Recent scientific studies support that online therapy can have the same positive outcomes as in-person therapy (Weinberg 2021, Ritvo et al. 2021, Andrews et al. 2018, Hubley et al. 2016). These findings highlight the effectiveness of online therapy and online yoga therapy as viable and beneficial options for those seeking mental health and wellness support.

How to Prepare for Online Therapy?
To help you get the most out of each online yoga therapy session, here are a few simple tips to prepare:
-
Ensure a Stable Internet Connection: A reliable internet connection is important for a smooth experience. If necessary, you can use your mobile hotspot as a backup.
-
Test Your Camera and Microphone: Make sure your camera and microphone are working before the session begins, so we can stay connected without any interruptions.
-
Set Up a Quiet, Comfortable Space: Choose a peaceful and comfortable area where you can move freely and focus on your practice without distractions.
-
Check the Video Call Link in Advance: Test the video link ahead of time and save it in an easily accessible spot (such as your calendar or email) to ensure a seamless connection.
-
Prepare Mentally and Physically: Think about any specific areas you’d like to focus on, any challenges you're facing, or any progress you’ve made since we last met. You don’t need to have something major in mind — just check in with yourself, and we'll work on what feels most relevant for your body and mind.
By preparing in this way, we can make each session more productive and aligned with your needs.
What Can I Expect in an Online Therapy Session With You?
In an online yoga therapy session, my approach remains the same as it would in person. Through secure video calls, we will work together to address your unique needs, using yoga practices and mindfulness techniques to help you reach your goals. I understand that starting therapy can feel a little daunting, but I am here to create a space where you feel comfortable and supported.
Some common questions for the first session include:
-
Why are you seeking yoga therapy?
-
What brought you to this point and made you decide to start now?
-
What specific goals would you like to achieve through our sessions together?
-
What are your expectations from me as your yoga therapist?
-
Are there any concerns or worries you have about the process?
These questions help guide our conversation and allow us to tailor the session to your needs. From there, we move at your pace — you are in control of what we explore, what practices you engage in, and how we approach any challenges you may face.
Yoga therapy is a safe, supportive space for your healing and growth. Everything you share is kept confidential, allowing you to fully relax and focus on your well-being.
