WHAT IS YOGA THERAPY

Yoga therapy is an integrated approach to wellbeing which utilizes the ancient wisdom of yoga with contemporary techniques. Through gentle movement or yoga poses, breathwork, and meditation, yoga therapy can help to manage stress, alleviate pain, improve flexibility, and enhance your sense of well-being.

WHY YOGA THERAPY

Yoga Therapy can be used as a complementary therapy for a wide range of health conditions, including stress related conditions, chronic pain, cardiovascular imbalances, insomnia, anxiety, depression and more. It can also support those seeking to manage lifestyle-related conditions. One of the defining features of a private yoga therapy session is its individualized approach. The yoga therapist will work closely with you to assess your needs, goals, and limitations, and then design a practice tailored for you.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN A YOGA THERAPY SESSION

People come to yoga therapy for several reasons, but the practice always aims to empower clients to care for themselves using mind-body practices and lifestyle changes. Each yoga therapy session is customized for the client, and the yoga techniques differ for each individual. The session length can vary, but typically last at least 1 hour and can be conducted individually or in small groups.

Intake: Yoga therapy sessions begin with a conversation with your therapist about what you are experiencing and your hopes for the session.

Practice: Based on the intake discussion, your yoga therapist will offer some practices to address your needs. These could include gentle movement or yoga poses, breath awareness, meditation, or relaxation techniques. You will be able to share feedback with your yoga therapist throughout the session and are encouraged to honor the wisdom of your body above all.

Integration: Following the practice, you might share about your experience, or the therapist might offer a moment to focus on an affirmation or intention.

Next Steps: Your yoga therapist may suggest home practice for example yoga practices that could be incorporated in your daily or weekly routine to support your goals.
